Hi everybody, I am trying to improve my fast down-picked only riffs and trying to fit this into Kiko’s practice method.
For example, Day 1 is simply down picking single notes on the low strings, Day 2 is 2 strings at a time playing 5th chords.
Do you guys have any suggestion for interesting exercises to practice down picking?
Metallica
Creeping Death, Ride the lightning, and of course Master of Puppets are good riffs to practice.
@theherd these are some great riffs, indeed!
This one from master of puppets makes a great exercise:
Aligning it with the program, maybe try including your down picking techniques into the Fundamentals, Out of the box, Musical and Out of the plateau stages of the GH program.
Hope this helps
As far as exercises, I would try creating your own. Maybe even create your own little down picking etude.
Playing some songs that incorporate down picking is certainly some good advice!
I also recommend Metallica riffs. Hetfield is a master of downpicking.
Riff Axelerator have a free Hetfield style lesson which is great for this.
Thanks for all the answers, awesome.
All these suggestions got me inspired to write a short etude for the Musical stage, I’ll try to a share a video soon,
